Gameboy Color--Barca Total 2000 Review |
|
Barca Total 2000 is a soccer game for the gameboy colour. Gameplay: 6/10 As in most soccer games you take control of a team and play a game of soccer against another soccer team. There are a great number of teams in this game and you can select the team formation or change the players as well as see the player's statistics. During the game, you can pass using the B button or do a powerful kick with the A button if you have the ball. Otherwise, the buttons will allow to tackle an opponent or swap control of players. The start and select buttons also allow you to play back the game at any one time as well as play it back in slow motion or get substitutes for the players. Each game is fairly short lasting several minutes at the most although this can be changed. There aren't any options for more complicated manuvers such as headers or complicated footwork unfortunately. Just passing and tackling really. Like in a real game of soccer or football, you can't tackle from behind and you'll get a yellow or red card if you do. That isn't necessarily a bad thing though considering the limitations of the gameboy colour it could still be fun despite the basic gameplay. Unfortunately, there wasn't really much fun in the game. It's not that the gamepplay is horrible, just mediocre. Graphics: 2/5 The graphics are fairly simplistic. The players, just their heads and feet and the different colours they wear. The field is fairly standard, no billboards or fans next to the sidelines. Sound & Music: 2.5/5 The sound is minimal. Just referee whistles, the sound of kicking and the cheering of fans. There is some music for the menu's but nothing else. The sound and music doesn't really annoy which is probably very important in this sort of game, sometimes, silence is a good thing. Playability & Versatility: 2/5 The game is fairly playable and it has the standard options for most soccer games but nothing which particularly stands out. You can compete in leagues or cups and organise your own competitions but there is no 'manager' part or anyway to train players unfortunately although the game does give you a break down of the scores. There's also the useful option to exit in-between games and comeback later. There is just no real reason to play the game for long periods of time. Options: 3/5 The game play options are standard much like the rest of the game. For example, you can enable penalties or turn them and you can change whether passing is automatic. For: Good range of options and statistics. Against: Boring gameplay, options don't really do much, no real point in going to leagues, no real music. |
